Hybrid Car Tax

Drivers of hybrid and electric cars may soon face a new tax.
A bill in Raleigh aims to charge $50 per hybrid and $100 per electric car when owners register them every year. The idea is to recoup the money those drivers don’t pay in gasoline taxes.
The new fees would bring in an estimated $1.5 million a year to the state’s highway fund. That would increase as more and more people buy hybrids and electrics.
